772,697 pounds of food rescued in 2016

Just Food, Douglas County’s food pantry, rescued about 772,697 pounds of food locally in 2016!

“This has allowed us to provide some of the freshest food possible to our clients,” Executive Director Elizabeth Keever said. “Clients now not only can get more food, but they also can get more fresh food, which makes a huge impact in the lives and diet of our clients.”

Just Food has set several goals for 2017, including increasing fresh fruit and vegetable distribution by 30 percent, partnering with Lawrence Public Library to expand its seed library and increasing the percentage of clients reporting cost savings and health benefits as a result of Just Cook.
