Downtown Grocery Project seeks endorsements

The Downtown Grocery Store Project Committee is seeing endorsements from businesses, organizations and individuals.

Nearly 24,400 adults and children in Lawrence live in a food desert. A food desert is an area where the majority of people live more than one mile from a grocery store and at least 20 percent of residents meet the federal poverty level.

The Downtown Grocery Committee is a group of community members working to address the food desert spanning North Lawrence, East Lawrence and the Pinckney and Brook Creek neighborhoods by advocating for a grocery store at Seventh and New Hampshire streets.
