Lawrence High School recently started an after-school Fit Club, thanks to a LiveWell Community Wellness Grant through the Douglas County Community Foundation.

So far, the group has 10-12 participants who do workouts twice a week. “With the grant, we were able to buy an array of different portable equipment that we have utilized a lot in the past month,” Jennifer Schmitt, foreign language teacher, said. “The idea came about when I noticed there wasn’t an opportunity for kids not involved in sports or gym class to be a part of physical wellness at our school.”

Schmitt also has started a club at Free State High School. “The kids have been excited and have worked really hard to make this work in their busy schedules.”
