MPO approves Loop alignment study

The Lawrence-Douglas County Metropolitan Planning Organization Policy Board approved a planning project Feb. 23 that will be a step forward in development of the Lawrence Loop.

When complete, the Loop will provide a continuous 22-mile trail around Lawrence. The MPO board voted unanimously to fund a study that will develop a specific proposal for alignment of the remaining segments of the Loop through a public engagement process. The MPO will hire a consultant to oversee the project in the coming months.

Segments of the Loop through Rock Chalk Park (pictured) and the Baldwin Creek Trail are nearly complete. The segments are in the final stages of construction, awaiting landscaping and railing installation before opening to the public this spring.
